Washington, DC – Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (R-VA-10) issued the following statement on Congressman Scott Rigell’s (R-VA-2) amendment that passed in the House Appropriations Committee to the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Funding Bill for FY2016. The amendment passed the committee by voice vote and adds $25 million to the $75 million currently appropriated by the Appropriation’s Sub-Committee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority for a total of $100 million:

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Barbara Comstock, U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx, and WMATA Interim General Manager and Chief Executive Officer Jack Requa rode Metro’s Silver Line today from East Falls Church to Wiehle-Reston East. Congresswoman Comstock, who serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, had requested that Secretary Foxx come ride on the system to discuss and evaluate the safety issues that came up in light of a smoke-filled Yellow Line train in January which tragically led to a fatality and 87 hospitalizations.
