Rep. Comstock Bipartisan Opioid Legislation Passes House Energy and Commerce Committee
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (R-VA) released the following statement after her bipartisan legislation H.R. 5473, the Better Pain Management Through Better Data Act of 2018, that was cosponsored by Congressman Ben Ray Lujan (D-NM) passed the House Energy and Commerce Committee today. The legislation is designed to reduce the use of opioids where possible and stem the threat of addiction.
“The Better Pain Management Through Better Data Act of 2018 will help reduce the use of opioids where possible by using better clinical data on prescription alternatives to opioids so our doctors have more non-opioid options to prescribe their patients. By giving doctors and patients more non-opioid choices, this legislation will help decrease the rates of addiction and ultimately save lives. I am pleased the Energy and Commerce Committee reported this legislation in a bipartisan manner and that my colleagues on the committee are committed to bringing this legislation swiftly to the House floor. I also thank my colleague Congressman Ben Ray Lujan who joined me as a co-sponsor of this legislation.”
