Rep. Barbara Comstock Meets With Republic of Korea’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kang Kyung-wha

September 26, 2017
Press Release

Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (R-VA) released the following statement after she joined a bipartisan group of Congresswomen who met with the Republic of Korea’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kang Kyung-wha, the first woman to ever hold the position in South Korea:

“Today a bipartisan group of my women colleagues met with Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha, the first woman to hold the position of the Republic of Korea’s Foreign Minister, for a discussion on the current North Korea threat. North Korea’s nuclear capacity has advanced faster than predicted and the international community is united in opposition to a nuclear North Korea capable of launching nuclear tipped ICBMs.  Our unique alliance with South Korea remains strong, and this high-level meeting was a unique opportunity to meet with women leaders on this threat.  All around economic pressure must be amplified to cut off revenue streams that flow into the backward North Korean state.  United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley has been working hard on this issue and has done great work to get the international community on board with harsher sanctions.  I appreciate the work of Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha as well as the opportunity to join with her and other women leaders here in Congress as we work to solve one of the most pressing issues of today.”
