Comstock Recognizes National Purple Heart Day
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (R-VA) recognized our nation’s heroes today for National Purple Heart Day. National Purple Heart Day is recognized each year on August 7th as a day to remember the gallant Purple Heart recipients, both past and present. The Purple Heart Award is currently the oldest award given to service members in the United States military who were wounded or killed in battle. Congresswoman Comstock had the following to say about National Purple Heart Day:
“America is a nation built on the sacrifices of those brave service members who fight for our country and for what they believe in and the Purple Heart Award is the least we can give to honor their sacrifices. I cosponsored H.R. 358, the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor Commemorative Coin Act, which would direct the minting of special commemorative coins to raise funds for the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor. The minted coins will not only commemorate the sacrifices made for our country, but will also allow their organization to better represent them and remind all Americans of the price they paid for our freedom. I ask that you take the time today to remember our wounded warriors and all they have done for us.”
