Comstock Receives “A” Religious Freedom Rating
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (R-VA) released the following statement after she received an “A” rating from the 21st Century Wilberforce Initiative for her ongoing work defending religious freedom:
“The fundamental right to religious freedom is still under attack throughout the world and I am pleased to work with the 21st Century Wilberforce Initiative, led by my friend and predecessor Congressman Frank Wolf, best known as the “Conscience of the Congress”, to protect religious freedom. A major tool in the battle against religious persecution is the Frank R. Wolf International Religious Freedom Act, bipartisan legislation which I cosponsored and which calls for stronger U.S. responses to religious freedom violations abroad. I appreciate the work the 21st Century Wilberforce Initiative has done for persecuted groups around the world. I am honored to receive this rating along with religious freedom leaders such as Representative Jeff Fortenberry, Representative Chris Smith, and Senator Marco Rubio.”
Former Congressman Frank Wolf said “I know that the International Religious Freedom Congressional Scorecard is a much needed tool. The IRF Congressional Scorecard will help recognize and encourage members of Congress who are doing vital and difficult work promoting religious freedom around the globe. Just as important, the Scorecard will inform Americans and help strengthen their voices.”
The 21st Century Wilberforce Initiative’s scorecard is based a number of items, including votes by Members of Congress on international religious freedom legislation, and can be found here. Only 39 Members of Congress received an “A” rating.
